Any routing protocol makes use of timers. They can be hello timers, dead/hold-down timers and so on. On this page you will find default timers values for various routing protocols.

RIP

RIP default timers

EIGRP

OSPF

Hello/Dead-interval NBMA 30/120
Hello and Dead timers must match on neighbors, in order to form a neighbor relationship in OSPF.

IS-IS
